Once you have the necessary hardware equipment, you can configure a Wi-Fi network name and password at the account level. You will want to do this when you have many Wi-Fi-capable phones that will all connect to the same network, like in your office. Follow the steps below to ensure that any Wi-Fi-enabled device will connect to the same network.

  1. Make sure that any existing Wi-Fi phones you’d like to configure are connected to your network with a hardwired Ethernet connection. Don’t worry; you’ll be able to disconnect the phone or phones later.
  2. Log in to office.ooma.com as an administrator and navigate to the IP Phones tab on the System page.
  3. Click Add under the Wi-Fi Settings section.
  4. Fill in the Network Name and Network Password. These settings will apply to all Wi-Fi-enabled phones on your network unless you have overridden those settings at the device level as described in our Ooma and Yealink articles. Note that the encryption is automatically set to AES and the security is set to WPA2 PSK.
  5. Save your changes.
  6. Reboot the IP phone or phones to ensure that the changes have been saved. Once the reboot process is complete, you can disconnect your device(s) from the Ethernet and complete the installation process wherever you’d like.

After you configure account-level Wi-Fi, any new supported IP phones that you purchase will only need to be plugged in to a hardwired Internet connection for their initial setup. As soon as a phone has successfully booted up the first time, you can unplug it and install it anywhere.
