Alternative Network Installations
Your Grandstream ATA device or your Ooma Office Base system has the flexibility to allow it to be set up almost anywhere in your office. Although we recommend the setup described in the Installation Instructions article, you can choose from other configuration options:
Install IP phones behind your router
If you have installed an IP phone behind your router, you will need to consult this article to ensure that the necessary ports and protocols are open on your router. If this does not resolve the issues, please see the Call quality section on our Troubleshooting page.
Install the ATA or Base Station behind your router
To install the ATA or Base Station behind your router, use the included Ethernet cable to connect the WAN (ATA) or TO INTERNET (Base Station) port to any open port on your router.
This alternate setup is easy to accomplish, but keep in mind that it does not allow your Base Station to prioritize your phone calls over other network traffic. If you do not configure QoS prioritization on your router, this setup could result in poor voice quality when your Internet connection is being used heavily.
Install the ATA or Base Station between your modem and your computer
If you only have a single computer in your business and it is connected directly to your modem, you can set up your Ooma Office ATA device or Base Station between your modem and your computer. You can do this by following these instructions:
- Locate the Ethernet cable that connects your modem to your computer and unplug it from your modem. Plug that cable into the LAN (ATA) or LOCAL NETWORK (Base Station) port. Please note that this will temporarily disconnect your computer from the Internet.
- Use the included Ethernet cable to connect the WAN (ATA) or TO INTERNET (Base Station) port to the now-open port on your modem.
- Reboot both your modem and your computer.
Wireless setup
If you have a Base Station and none of the setup options described above work for you, or if you simply wish to free yourself from wires, you can take advantage of the optional Ooma Wireless Adapter. Simply plug the wireless adapter into the USB port on the back of your Ooma Office Base Station and follow the simple setup instructions in the included Quick Start Guide. When you are done, you can set up your Base Station anywhere in your office that works the best for you.
