Using the mobile app in poor network conditions
The Ooma Home Phone app apps require a strong stable Internet connection to work well in VoIP mode. If you find that you are having trouble maintaining a high-quality connection on calls through your mobile app, please try the following troubleshooting steps:
-
Use a Wi-Fi connection whenever possible to make and receive calls through the app. In general, a Wi-Fi connection will provide a better calling experience than cellular data (e.g., 3g, 4g, LTE).
-
If you are experiencing poor quality while connected to Wi-Fi, try changing Wi-Fi networks. Even with a strong signal to your phone, the Internet connection for the Wi-Fi (known as “backhaul”) could be weak. Using a different Wi-Fi network may resolve this problem.
-
If you are using cellular data for calling, be sure to maintain a strong signal. Cellular signals can vary, especially while driving. Calls may be more reliable while you are stationary so that you can maintain a strong cellular signal.
-
If you have a better connection on your cell network, follow these instructions to turn cellular calling mode on:
- Go to Preferences
- Select More
- Select Calling Mode
- Select Cellular
This will use your carrier’s native voice calling, which may be more reliable in challenging network conditions.
