What network does the Telo 4G Adapter use? How do I know if my house has good coverage?
The Telo 4G Adapter uses the Sprint 4G LTE nationwide network. You can visit ooma.com/checkcoverage to check the level of coverage for your address.
Do I need to purchase a data plan from Sprint?
You will purchase your data plan directly through Ooma.
Where should I place the 4G Telo Adapter in my home to get the best 4G signal?
For the best 4G signal, the Telo 4G Adapter should be placed in an area of your house with good cellular reception such as in a room with a window. It should ideally be located as close as possible to a window. Suction cups may be used to mount the adapter directly against a window. The adapter should not be placed in a corner, against a wall, or within five feet of a large metal object like a water heater or refrigerator.
You can use the signal indicator in the Base Station Setup app to find a good spot with a strong 4G signal. Simply move the Telo 4G Adapter and wait for approximately 10 seconds. The app will show the signal strength of in the adapter’s current location.
What type of connection speed should I expect?
Your connection speed will vary based on the construction of your home. You can expect download speeds of between 1 and 25 Mbps and speeds of between 1 and 5 Mbps.
Can I extend my 4G connection to devices outside my Ooma setup?
You can use the Telo 4G Adapter for devices other than your Ooma setup. For a single device, use a USB cable to plug the device into the HOME Ethernet port on the back of the Ooma Base Station. For multiple devices, plug in a router to the HOME Ethernet port on the back of the Ooma Base Station and then connect your other devices to that router.
Can I use the 4G connection to browse online and stream video?
You will enjoy the convenience of using the 4G connection for basic tasks like checking your email and browsing the Internet. We don’t, however, recommend that you use the Telo 4G Adapter for data-intensive tasks like streaming music or video. Our data plans are designed for light-to-moderate usage. Using the adapter to stream a lot of data will result in a large bill at the end of the month.
What data plans are available?
Ooma currently offers two data plans: the 4G Basic plan for users who will use the Telo 4G as a backup connection and the 4G Premium plan for users who will use the Telo 4G as their primary connection. These plans are charged in addition to any phone service or security subscriptions you may have.
