Your Ooma Office Base Station has the flexibility to allow it to be set up almost anywhere in your office that you wish. Although we recommend the setup described in the Installation Instructions FAQ, you can choose from other configuration options:
Install the Base Station behind your router
To install the Ooma Office Base Station behind your router, use the included Ethernet cable to connect the TO INTERNET port on the Base Station to any open port on your router, as shown below:
This alternate setup easy to accomplish, but keep in mind that it does not allow your Base Station to prioritize your phone calls over other network traffic. This could result in poor voice quality when your Internet connection is being used heavily.
Install the base station between your modem and your computer
If you only have a single computer in your business and it is connected directly to your modem, you can set up your Ooma Office Base Station between your modem and your computer. You can do this by following these instructions:
- Locate the Ethernet cable that connects your modem to your computer and unplug it from your modem. Plug that cable into the LOCAL NETWORK port on your Ooma Office Base Station. Please note that this will temporarily disconnect your computer from the Internet.
- Use the included Ethernet cable to connect the TO INTERNET port on your Base Station to the now-open port on your modem.
- Reboot both your modem and your computer.
When you are done, your setup should be similar to the one shown below:
If none of the setup options described above work for you, or if you simply wish to free yourself from wires, you can take advantage of the optional Ooma Wireless Adapter. Simply plug the wireless adapter into the USB port on the back of your Ooma Office Base Station and follow the simple setup instructions in the included Quick Start Guide. When you are done, you can set up your Base Station anywhere in your office that works the best for you.
