An SSL certificate is a small file that allows your device to establish a secure connection with a server or website. These certificates protect your data from being stolen or tampered with. You will need to install the SSL certificate that we provide for you if you want to use Advanced Threat Security and Safe Search.

How can I install an SSL Certificate on my device?

The steps you will take to install the SSL certificate will vary depending on the type of device that the certificate is being installed on:

Mac OS

To install the SSL certificate on your Mac OS computer, follow these instructions:

  1. Navigate to either Safe Search or Threat Security under the Security tab in My Ooma and click the “Install/Send Certificate” button. In the pop-up that appears, you may download the file directly by pressing the “Download Certificate” button, or you may also email it to yourself as an attachment.
  2. Locate the file you have downloaded and open it by double clicking. Click “Open” if you see a prompt that requests confirmation that you want to open the type of file. The Keychain Access app will open. Enter your password if you are prompted to do so.

  3. The certificate appears as “Zscaler Root CA” in the Keychain Access window. The certificate must be installed in the System keychain in order for it to work properly. If it is located in a different keychain (e.g. login, Local Items, or System Roots), click and drag it to the System keychain.
  4. Sometimes the Certificate may be identified as “not trusted”. To fix this right click or Ctrl + click the Zscaler Root certificate, like in the screenshot below:

  5. Click on “Get Info”. Then click the “Trust” dropdown, and set “When using this certificate:” to “Always Trust:”

Windows 10

To install the SSL certificate on your Windows 10 computer, follow these instructions:

  1. Navigate to either Safe Search or Threat Security under the Security tab in My Ooma and click the “Download Certificate” button to download the SSL certificate to your computer.

  2. Locate the file you have downloaded and open it by double clicking. Click “Open” if you see a prompt that requests confirmation that you want to open the type of file.

  3. Click on “Install Certificate,” and then “Next:”

  4. Select “Place all certificates in the following store,” and then click “Browse.” On the popup window, select “Trusted Root Certificate Authorities:”

  5. Click “Ok” on the popup, “Next” on the wizard, and “Finish”.
  6. On the Security Warning popup, click “Yes”.

iOS mobile device

To install the SSL certificate on your iOS mobile device, follow these instructions:

  1. Use a desktop computer to navigate to either Safe Search or Threat Security under the Security tab in My Ooma. When you are prompted to install or send the certificate, click the “Install/Send Certificate” button.
  2. Enter an email address to send the certificate to yourself, and then click “Send.” This will allow you to download the certificate to your mobile device.
  3. On your mobile device, open the email from Ooma and download the attachment. You will be prompted to confirm that you wish to install the certificate. You may be asked to enter your iOS password.
  4. The SSL certificate will be activated and can start protecting your device right away.

Android mobile device

To install the SSL certificate on your Android mobile device, follow these instructions:

  1. Use a desktop computer to navigate to either Safe Search or Threat Security under the Security tab in My Ooma. Click on the When you are prompted to install or send the certificate, click the “Install/Send Certificate” button.
  2. Enter an email address to send the certificate to yourself, and then click “Send.” This will allow you to download the certificate to your mobile device.
  3. On your mobile device, open the email from Ooma and download the attachment. You will be prompted to name the certificate, and to identify its credential use. Select the Wi-Fi option.
  4. The SSL certificate will be activated and can start protecting your device right away.

I am getting an error that the certificate authority is invalid or not trusted. How do I fix this?

This is an error that occurs if you have Advanced Threat Security or Safe Search enabled.

If you are getting an error stating that the certificate authority is invalid or not trusted, then your SSL certificate was not installed correctly. Please follow the steps above to correctly install the certificate.
