How much capacity does each Base Station add?

Each expansion Base Station supports up to five additional analog phones. You can connect one phone to the expansion unit’s built-in phone jack, and you can connect up to four more analog phones using Ooma Linx devices paired to the expansion Base Station (sold separately).

How many expansion Base Stations can I add?

Ooma Office can support up to four expansion Base Stations and a total of 20 analog phones.

How many Linx devices can each expansion Base Station support?

Each expansion Base Station can support up to four paired Linx devices. Expansion Base Stations do not come with Linx devices, so these must each be purchased separately.

How much bandwidth is needed to support each user?

Ooma Office requires 128kbps of free bandwidth per user with an analog desk phone. Users who primarily use remote numbers or the Ooma Office Mobile app do not need to be included.

How many expansion Base Stations and Linx devices do I need to support 20 analog phones?

This depends on whether or not you will use the phone jack on the Base Stations. If you do not plan to use the phone jack on the Base Station and will only use Linx devices, then you will need a total of five Base Stations and 20 Linx devices (one for each analog phone). If you are able to use the phone jack on each Base Station, then you will only need a total of four Base Stations (which will support four analog phones) and 16 Linx devices (which will support the other 16 analog phones).

Where can I purchase expansion Base Stations and additional Linx devices?

You can purchase expansion Base Stations, additional Linx devdfzices, and other Ooma accessories online directly from Ooma when you are logged in to the Ooma Office Manager. Expansion Base Stations can pair with up to four Linx devices or Headsets, each sold separately.

How much do additional Base Stations cost?

You can purchase additional Base Stations for $99.

How do I install a new expansion Base Station?

Once you have received your expansion Base Station, you can find installation instructions in our online tutorial, or you can install it by following these instructions before you plug in the new unit:

  1. Go to http://office.ooma.com/base_stations and log in as an administrator to your Ooma Office account.
  2. Click the “Add Base Station” button:

  3. Enter the activation code on the bottom of your new expansion Base Station and enter a descriptive name.
  4. Click the “Add” button.

Now you can install the expansion Base Station at your desired location and plug it in. The first time you plug in the expansion Base Station, it may require a software upgrade. If this is the case, it will take approximately 5-10 minutes to download the update and boot up for the first time. Do not unplug your Base Station while it is upgrading; the unit will automatically reboot after the upgrade is complete.

Can I install an expansion Base Station in a different part of my office than my primary Base Station?

Yes. You can install your expansion Base Stations anywhere inside your office as long as there is an available hard-wired Ethernet connection.

The radio range of a single Base Station unit is approximately 150 feet in an open area. If you need to install Linx devices that are out of range of your primary Base Station, you can use expansion Base Station units to extend the range of your Ooma Office system by spreading the Base Stations across your office area.

Which Base Station should I pair my Linx to?

You should try to pair a Linx to the Base Station that is closest.

Can I install an expansion Base Station at a different site?

No. Expansion Base Stations must be on the same network in order to work together.

How can I pair new devices with an expansion Base Station?

Once you have added an expansion Base Station, or you can find instructions to help you pair a new Ooma Linx device in our online tutorial, or you can follow these instructions:

  1. Log into your Ooma Office account at office.ooma.com and navigate to the Base Stations tab.
  2. Click on the “Register New Device” button next to the Base Station with which you will pair your new device:

  3. Follow the on-screen directions to finish setting up your new device.

Once your Linx has been paired, you need to assign the Linx to a user on your system:

  1. Log into your Ooma Office account at office.ooma.com and navigate to the Manage Extensions tab.
  2. Click on the user to whom you would like to add a device.
  3. Click on the “Devices” tab in the pop-up, and then click “Add Device:”

  4. Select the type of device that you would like to add from the dropdown menu. When you are prompted to add the Device ID, you should be able to select the device that you have paired with the Base Station from the dropdown menu.
  5. Finish filling in the required information and save your changes. The new device should be available for use immediately.

How can I change the name for one of my Base Stations?

You can change the name of a Base Station by following these instructions:

  1. Log into your Ooma Office account at office.ooma.com and navigate to the Base Stations tab.
  2. Click on the current name of the Base Station:

  3. Type the new name in the pop-up window that appears, and then save your changes.

Do I need to have an available port on my router or switch for each expansion Base Station?

Yes, it is recommended to connect each Base Station to a port on your router or switch.

Can I connect Base Stations to each other?

No, it is not recommended that you daisy-chain multiple Base Stations to each other. Each Base Station should have a direct connection to your router.

Can I physically place multiple Base Stations on top of one another?

No. For the best wireless performance, Base Stations should be separated by at least 12 inches and should not be stacked in top of one another.

What should I do if my Base Station is installed between my modem and router?

If your primary Base Station is installed between your modem and router, then you have two options. You can connect your expansion units behind your router, or you can install an Ethernet switch to the LOCAL NETWORK port of your primary Base Station and connect the expansion units to the switch. In the latter configuration, your router would also be connected to the Ethernet switch.
